Congratulations to the Poultry Festival Broiler Show participants

Posted on: October 12th, 2018

Bird and Crawford Forestry salutes the 75 Shelby County 4-H and FFA students who exhibited at this year’s East Texas Poultry Festival Broiler Show and Sale Saturday, October 6 in Center, Texas.

A total of 46 pens made the sale where an all-time record was set netting more than $157,500 and a grand champion pen of broilers selling for $10,000.

Exhibitors included children of Bird and Crawford Forestry employees and clients, and the company was happy to be a participating buyer in the community event.

Julie Bird’s pen (Center FFA) placed fifth; Kenley Ramos’ pen (Center FFA) placed seventh, and Guner Youngblood’s pen (Shelby County 4-H) placed 18th. Placing 19th was Jase Bird’s pen (Center FFA), and 36th was Mason Hughes (Joaquin FFA).

The broiler sale is the highlight of the annual East Texas Poultry Festival celebrating one of the biggest agricultural economic industries in East Texas. This year’s 42nd edition of the three-day festival and events leading up to it included arts and crafts, a pageant, parade, car show, carnival, vendor booths, judging of the chickens and the broiler sale.

Bird and Crawford Forestry is proud of the youth in Shelby County and recognizes the excellent job every one of them demonstrated during the six weeks they were responsible for the care of their chickens. Each participant was given 30 chicks and the best three from each pen were judged during the competition.
